Connecting
1. Turn on your computer and use the wireless settings to connect to the strongest “@Netstop - Wi-Fi” signal.
2. Open your web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari) and browse to any web site. (google.com etc)
3. You will now see our pricing page where you can purchase your time securely via credit card.
4. You are now connected to the Internet.
You can go to http://netstop.co.nz/wifi to check your account.

No connection?
Signal – Can you see our aerial? WiFi signal is a bit like a lighthouse light, the signal is best if the aerial in your computer can “see” our aerial directly. (i.e. not through the steel hull of the boat next door). Is there a switch on the side of your laptop to turn wireless on?
Can’t see the payment page – If you have two web browsers – try the other one (i.e.Internet Explorer and Firefox). Try going to google.com.
Lots of signal but can’t connect – To ensure high speed, our system uses 802.11g/n, if your computer only supports the very old 802.11b then you will need a newer wireless card.
Gigabytes (bandwidth) running out too fast – The following software and websites can use lots of bandwidth.
- Viruses – they may be using bandwidth in the background without your knowledge.
- Streaming music and tv.
- Youtube (about 3 megabytes per minute) You could watch about 5 hours of Youtube on one gigabye of bandwidth.
- Downloading movies and music.
- Software updates – windows downloading updates from Microsoft without your knowledge.
- Skype – especially skype video calls. (1mb per minute for voice, 6mb per minute for video) 1gb should give you about 150 minutes of video calls or 1,000 minutes of voice calls.
How much is a gigabyte?
Transmitting the letter A is one (one byte), 1000 is a kilobyte (1kb), 1,000,000 is a megabyte (1mb), and 1,000,000,000 is a gigabyte (1gb, 1 billion bytes). There are 1,000 megabytes in a gigabyte.
A small email may be 1000 letters / bytes, so a gigabyte would let you send one million small emails. However, a single movie download is also one gigabyte.
